Sustainability

Overview

As a medical device company, we are deeply committed to sustainability. We believe that our responsibility extends beyond providing high-quality, life-enhancing products. It also includes reducing our environmental impact, using resources efficiently, and promoting sustainable practices in all areas of our business. We strive to continually improve our environmental performance and integrate sustainable business practices into our daily operations. We are committed to meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

We understand the importance of addressing climate change and are taking active steps to tackle this issue. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have developed a comprehensive carbon reduction plan. This plan outlines the steps we are taking to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future. It demonstrates our dedication to environmental stewardship and our ambition to lead by example in our industry.

Modern Slavery Statement

We are firmly committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in any part of our business or our supply chains. This commitment is embedded in our company culture and reflects our values of integrity, transparency, and respect for all. Integral to this commitment is our rigorous auditing process of our supply chains.

We have implemented policies and procedures to identify potential risks and prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations. Our approach includes regular risk assessments, monitoring of our supply chains, and providing training to our employees to increase awareness and understanding of these issues.

In line with the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015, we publish an annual slavery and human trafficking statement. This statement sets out the steps we have taken to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains.

We recognise that the fight against modern slavery and human trafficking is a shared responsibility. Therefore, we are committed to collaborating with our business partners, stakeholders, and relevant authorities to contribute towards the eradication of modern slavery and human trafficking.

NHS Evergreen Sustainability Assessment

ASep is working to align with the NHS net zero and sustainability ambitions. ASep's commitment comprises 3 elements:

  • Net Zero - expressed through a comprehensive Carbon Reduction Plan that addresses measures to reduce its direct (Scope 1 and 2) and indirect (Scope 3) carbon footprint.

  • Social Value - commitment to transparency reporting and promoting social sustainability and stimulating economic sustainability. ASep is committed to working with supply chain partners based in the UK who primarily source local raw material, ensuring economic benefits from manufacturing for NHS requirements stay within the local community.

  • Modern Slavery - ASep is committed to transparency across its supply chain to eliminate modern slavery and facilitate local economic growth in line with its social value model.

2023 NHS Evergreen Assessment: Level 1: Publicly committed to net zero carbon and engaged with sustainability

ASep Healthcare is pleased to have completed the NHS Evergreen Sustainable Supplier Assessment. The Assessment is a self-assessment and reporting tool and resulted in us receiving a Level 1: Publicly committed to net zero carbon and engaged with sustainability. The information reported through Evergreen is supporting us to understand our alignment with NHS sustainability priorities and identify those areas in which we need to accelerate progress. The Evergreen Assessment is one of several NHS initiatives designed to support its net zero and wider sustainability objectives. We are delighted to be supporting the NHS to achieve their net zero and sustainability ambitions, including those set out in the NHS Net Zero Supplier Roadmap

Greener and Cleaner New Product Development

ASep’s goal is to make blood collection simpler, intuitive and stress-free for caregivers and patients. As part of its sustainable manufacturing strategy, ASep Healthcare designs and manufactures all of its products in the United Kingdom. Working closely with phlebotomists, clinicians, healthcare procurement professionals and industry partners it is committed to reducing its environmental impact through innovative design, manufacture and packaging.

ASep has committed considerable resources to develop technical solutions to allow recyclable single use tourniquets. With each Tournistrip tourniquet now weighing less than 1 gram, it has also reduced the amount of material in its products by replacing the packaging and tourniquet boxes with refillable dispensers that result in significantly reduced packaging.

ASep has also developed a fully recyclable dispenser pouch for its Tournistretch SP single patient, multiple use tourniquet that has been approved for disinfection to allow multiple use on the same patient.

ASep's research and development program is ongoing to deliver a fully recyclable single patient use tourniquet. Asep is also developing Tournistretch MP, a reusable tourniquet that can be disinfected to allow multiple patient use.
